A drinks order does not always begin in the same place. A bar manager may be checking the cellar with a phone in hand, while a restaurant team may be reviewing requirements from a desktop. A larger operation may already send orders through a connected purchasing system.
Champers supports several ways to order, but they are not simply five interchangeable channels. For most customers, the Champers app or online platform is the preferred everyday route. EDI serves businesses that already use a connected ordering system, while email and telephone remain available alternatives.
Which ordering route should you use?
| Route | Best suited to |
|---|---|
| App or web platform | Routine self-service ordering, with the listed range, agreed prices, basket and applicable offers together in one place. |
| EDI | Customers whose purchasing system is already connected for electronic ordering. |
| A manual alternative when the app or web platform is not being used for a particular order. | |
| Telephone | An available ordering route that is particularly useful when you also need help from the team. |
Orders cannot be placed by WhatsApp or text message.
App and web: the preferred route for routine orders
Customers use the same credentials for the Champers mobile app and browser-based platform. Each provides access to the same listed products and the customer’s agreed prices, quoted excluding VAT.
The choice between app and web is therefore mostly about which device suits the task. A phone or tablet can work well while checking stock around a venue; a desktop can suit someone preparing a larger order from the office. Both routes accept submissions 24 hours a day over Wi-Fi or mobile data.
Customers can browse or search the listed range, select exact products and quantities, see prices relevant to their account, review the basket and access offers available to them. Choosing the product directly is especially useful where similar names or formats could otherwise make a manually described order unclear.
Favourites and earlier app orders can also help customers return to familiar products without searching the full range every time. Access to the app and online platform is supplied after a Champers trade account has been opened. The app is available for iPhone and Android, and account managers can help new customers get started.
EDI: for customers with a connected ordering system
Electronic data interchange, usually shortened to EDI, allows an already connected purchasing system to send an order to Champers. It is intended for customers who manage purchasing through this type of business system, rather than being an option every customer needs.
If your business already uses EDI—or is considering whether this route is suitable—the Champers team can discuss the arrangement with you.
Email: an available alternative
Orders can also be sent by email. This can be useful when a customer is not using the app or online platform for a particular order, or when the digital platform is unavailable.
An email order relies on the information written into the message, so it does not provide the same in-platform view of the listed range, agreed prices and basket while the order is being assembled. Customers using email should send their order to sales@champerswholesale.com.
Telephone: ordering and support
For routine orders, Champers recommends the app or online platform. Telephone ordering remains available, while calling is particularly useful when a customer needs assistance or wants to resolve a question.
For general help with an account or an order, customers can contact the office team on 020 8961 2889. When the question is about choosing a product, the customer’s account manager is the appropriate point of contact.
Customer-support hours are 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Outside those hours, customers can still submit an order through the app or online platform; it will enter the team’s review process from 8:00 a.m. on the next office working day.
What happens after an order is submitted?
Customers receive their agreed prices regardless of how they place an order. Orders remain subject to product availability, account arrangements and Champers’ current terms.
Every digital order is reviewed by the Champers team. If an item is unavailable or something unusual arises, the team will make contact. Champers will speak to the customer before substituting a product, so an alternative can be discussed or the item removed.
Choose the route that fits the task
For most regular orders, the Champers app or browser platform is the best place to start: it keeps the listed range, agreed prices, basket and applicable offers together and is ready whenever the customer wants to submit.
EDI supports customers already working through a connected purchasing system. Email and telephone remain available alternatives, while the office team and account managers provide help when a question needs a person rather than another ordering screen.
